Artist Profile
Cristina Moroño was born in Madrid (Spain), in 1973. She studied at The University of Fine Arts in Madrid (Universidad de Bellas Artes) and graduated with honors with a major in printmaking. She also holds a Masters Degree in Fine Arts.
In 2003 she moved to New York where she studied photography at International Center of Photography and Silkscreen Techniques at the Parsons School of Design.
She received several prestigious awards, twice from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando, Madrid in 1999 and 2001, and twice from the Spanish Government of Comunidad de Madrid in 2000 and 2005. She was granted several fellowships at the Joan Miro Foundation in Mallorca, Spain.
She recently received the Prize awarded by the Spanish Gorvernement of Comunidad de Madrid and ESTAMPA to the "Best Artist ESTAMPA 2007".
Her work is represented in numerous public and private collections including the National Library of Madrid and the City Museum of Madrid, among others. Her work has been exhibited in numerous solo and group shows in Spain, France, and New York.
The artist states, "In my compositions, the gestures and volumes confirm and accept the passing of time, the straight line represents strength, the energy of life. The lines I draw represent my life, my way of understanding and registering the world around me."
She currently resides in New York City.
