Crucifiction Icon, acrylic on canvas, 96" x 48"
In order to create an iconic image of Christ on the Cross the artist uses triangles
in combination with symbolic innovation. The upper portion of the configuration
is exaggerated outwards compared to the remainder of the work.
This serves to dramatize the outstretched arms of Christ nailed to the cross.
But the arms more than just represent the human flesh they also make references
to loaves of bread and the celebration of the Holy Eucharist.
At mid center a gigantic chalice, Christian symbols and wine, serve to complete
the visual narration of the Church’s ritual of thanksgiving.
