Artist Profile

In his artist's statement Jack Dickerson explains: "I work best from the inside out. Over time my mind has constantly stored snapshots of all kinds: events, impressions, reactions, and experiential feelings and insights. Certain visuals I see today cause a powerful connection with certain snapshots from the past. It is this combination that constantly creates new images on my canvases. As my life unfolds, so do my paintings. My large body of work reflects internal challenges, accomplishments, anxieties, beliefs, and sense of purpose. They are my personal stories."

Jack Dickerson translates minor everyday occurrences into striking moments in time. He paints what he feels, in his own way, often developing his preliminary compositions through large graphite drawings with sweeping strokes on his 4 x 8 foot easel. His paintings evolve, gradually coming to life with strong, distinct color palettes, contrasting lighting and dynamic brushwork. His diversity in styles is a reflection of his constant search for more meaningful ways to express the energy in what he sees and feels.

Jack's work has been shown in both group and solo exhibitions in the Northeast. His paintings are featured in private and corporate collections throughout the U.S. He has been published in many publications including Graphis, Better Homes & Gardens and The Boston Globe. He has been recognized with numerous awards.

A graduate of Rhode Island School of Design and the Allgemeine Gewerbeschule in Basel, Switzerland, Jack is the recipient of a two-year grant from the Ford Foundation. He comes from a family of Dutch architects.
His great grandfather, Petrus Cuypers, designed the Rijksmuseum and Central Station in Amsterdam.

Praise for Jack Dickerson

"In his landscapes in particular, Jack gives us an unexpected view in which he builds for us layers of light and color to reveal his own unique (and almost always uplifting) perspective of the scene. He is both provocative and purposeful in his art and in his life for that matter."
Susan Allaire Slane (Art Consultant), Art for Life, Boston, MA

"For me, Jack's works seem to capture elements you can't see -- like temperature, the wind's effects, and the weather -- as if you were there. I also have to say, his landscapes and waterscapes just make me feel good when I walk by them."
Tom Sorbo, Investment COO and private collector, Massachusetts

"I think people are desperate to be inspired and it is very inspirational to see things in new ways unfolding. Jack and his work do that and in doing that, cause people to experience a unique visual dialogue both with themselves and with him."
Rick Shoff, CEO and corporate collector, Pennsylvania
