Artist Profile Light and dark are two opposites that Lori Landis uses to advantage in the development of her compositions. Working with a mix of acrylic, gold leaf and mixed media, she creates elegant paintings in rich colors that speak of passion, strength and hope. Her use of undulating space helps balance the power of color, leading the viewer into a contemplative experience. According to Lori, “Thoughts of Byzantium fill my head.” She feels that her works mirror the grace and form of this medieval civilization. Lori Landis is committed to the belief that as an artist she is an instrument through which flow images that are more than the sum of her talent and self learning. This is essentially what in psychology is called “a Gestalt school of thought”. Lori's unique paintings have been shown in one-person and group exhibitions throughout the U.S. including the Freed Gallery in Oregon, where her work is on view. Other exhibitions include the Manhattan Arts International "Small Works" exhibition juried by Jill Connor, New York art critic, in New York, NY, and those at the West End Art Museum in Arizona, and Arizona State University-Mercado Center. She has received numerous awards including an "Award of Excellence" from Manhattan Arts International for her distinctive work. Lori presents workshops in AZ called "Rituals & Mandalas", at the Brio Fine Arts Center on Raintree in the airpark. Mandalas are spiritual exercises like the early Christians, Navajos & Tibet monks have used. This is about quieting your mind and soul so you can really be aware of your Spirit. You can read more about her healing mandala workshops in the Manhattan Arts Ezine. Lori's work has been acquired for numerous private and corporate collections. Her paintings are in the collection of General Dynamics in North Carolina, Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Arizona and a New York law firm. She has appeared on the NBC affiliate in Phoenix and on the national Hallmark channel. She is a signature member of the International Society of Acrylic Painters. |
