Like filmmaking, each photographic project, unique in theme and subject, is executed using filmic techniques, such as movement—camera, subject or both—and pulling focus. Another strong influence on Amrose’s work was at CEPA Gallery where he learned photography fundamentals and the aesthetics of photographic art.

Sue Miller won the Artist Showcase Award in the Manhattan Arts International “New Beginnings” online exhibition which I had the pleasure of curating.

When she submitted her entries to “New Beginnings” she wrote, “Inspired by places I have visited, I aim to capture the effects of light on colors and forms as I have witnessed all over the globe. The pieces selected for the ‘New Beginnings’ exhibition were all inspired by transformation…one day turning into the next, or a historic city in the midst of great change…new beginnings all.”

Miller’s main focus is urban landscapes and she excels at recreating the unique color and characteristics and cultural aspects of the locale she visits. She takes time mixing colors to achieve the ideal hue and tone, and explains, “For me, painting provides a total break from reality, by immersing my energies, thoughts, and complete focus into the time and place of the work’s subject. Painting has helped me to indulge in a deeper mindfulness while visiting new locations around the world. This has allowed me to better absorb and appreciate the full experience of what I have seen, heard, and felt—to more fully perceive and understand each unique and inspiring place.”

Coaty states, “Images that are meaningful to me are those that exude an emotion of affection, survival, sadness or joy. I love the happy appeal of color and the broodiness of black and white.”

None of her images are staged. She explains, “Simplicity narrows my approach when finding geometric shapes and color on the landscape. I use stillness to represent the peacefulness of my subjects. I feel connected to my images in a spiritual sense of how I got there, or why I was there to record what I saw. ”

She adds, “As I continue forward, I create small intimate photographs and large format for impact. I want my viewers to enjoy the experience of feeling emotion from an image.”

Chantal Leblanc – Paintings

About Chantal Leblanc

Chantal Leblanc creates light-filled abstract paintings that are  also powerful and life-affirming. She achieves an ethereal atmosphere in her art works through the juxtaposition of soft strokes of muted colors with energetic vibrant hues.

Chantal Leblanc, The Angel Within, mixed media, 48” x 36”.

Leblanc, who lives in Canada, recently won three awards in an international art competition juried by 25 galleries and museums in the United States. Her painting “The Angel Within” was selected for Manhattan Arts International’s “The Healing Power of ART 2016” exhibition and she won an Award of Excellence.  The Artist’s Magazine gave her an Honorable Mention Award in its July 2016 issue.  She recently won the silver medal in the 44th International CAPSQ juried at Roma Galleria Della La Pigna in Vatican.

The artist states, “My art reflects my search for inner peace. It aims at drawing you into this suspended state where subtle life flow creates beauty and healing. A place our soul yearns for… the one that already resides deep inside of us.”

Chantal Leblanc, Waterways, mixed media, 36” x 48”

Leblanc’s creative approach begins as a subtractive and intuitive process as she allows bursts of vibrating colors to emerge which resonate and expand in depth. She then adds very thin layers of glazes and washes to bring movement to the compositions.

She explains: “In this dance, I seek pulsation, shift and vibration in physical elements. By harnessing the tension between opposites, I want to freeze the moment while it is still a state of becoming… to capture that energy, nature’s energy.”

“My creative process runs deeper than creating a painting. It is who I am, it draws me in and it is my connection, I hope, to viewers.”

Leblanc’s art was exhibited at the Women in Art 2016 international curated show held at the Ward Nasse Gallery in New York, NY and at the Montreal Visual Arts Centre. Her art was presented in a  curated group exhibition in the Roma Galleria La Pigna at the Vatican, Italy.

About her theme titled “NATURA”,  she writes: “The philosophical thread I am pursuing at the moment has to do with the constant duality between man and nature. Man’s extraordinary efforts to try and control nature, our stubbornness to manipulate, re-organize and mistreat her… she will not go down without a fight!”

St-Cyr has discovered her own powerful style  that originates from her philosophy and life experiences and communicates powerful and timeless truths about humanity.

Renowned American art critic Brian Sherwin commented on St-Cyr’s paintings, stating, “The paintings of Joanne St-Cyr invite viewers to a world of fantasy and symbolism… a place where each brushstroke pulls together in order to reveal the elegance and magic of the creatures that inhabit it.”

Sherwin states, her painting “Beckon viewers to unshackle their imaginations… in order to embrace the world of wonder that Joanne has provided for us.”

His art has been featured in numerous exhibitions, magazines, blogs and through organizations world-wide.  He is a recipient of the Manhattan Arts International Artist Showcase Gallery Award in “The Healing Power of ART 2016” juried exhibition. He received this award for his captivating style that blends modern technology, innovation and inspirational beauty.

With his entry to The Healing Power of ART 2016 exhibition he wrote, “I blend scenes from my surroundings into surreal photomontages. What you see are stylized amalgamations of my everyday world. I hope to bring about healing by revealing the serendipity and potential of unexpected connections in our ordinary environments. Through contrasting elements presented with an underlying harmony, I seek to create metaphors for transcending into positive or encouraging realms.”

In a featured article about Richard Smith on the Mutant Space blog  he explained, “My process is like carving a sculpture, with the edges of my fingers forming lines to define shapes and reveal serendipitous relationships — not unlike physically placing individual elements as in a paper collage — except I do this through masking, blending and mimicking established photographic techniques like solarization or vignetting. Each piece is meticulously crafted with these and other ingredients, using direct touch to form a hierarchy of narrative.”

Smith, who lives in Winston Salem, NC, calls our attention to the beauty that often goes unnoticed. He states, “Art surrounds us, whether in architecture, words, music, or just in nature. And having an appreciation for that can make life more meaningful.”

Carolyn Oberst – Painting

Manhattan Arts International Artist Showcase Gallery

About Carolyn Oberst

With the belief that objects have emotional power of their own New York artist Carolyn Oberst was first drawn to still life. She gradually incorporated vintage toys as subjects into her paintings as, “they suggest the idea of moving through time; striking a chord, with notes of nostalgia, joy and laughter, sadness and fear.”

The artist states her chosen subject matter allows her to produce work that serves her interest in, “memories of, and reflections on childhood, expressing how the past profoundly affects the present.” Her work touches on these universal themes.

Oberst feels painting is visual poetry; suggestive and open to interpretation. The viewer, like the reader, can decide what it means.

In her latest work she uses a dream-like space that allows her abstracted figures and toys to be suggestive of memory, and how the mind can mingle past and present.

Originally a clothing designer in NYC, Oberst discovered a love of painting while creating hand-painted fabrics for her designs. She then devoted herself to studying painting and life drawing.

Her art has been in exhibitions in major cities throughout the U.S. including those at the Atrium, sponsored by Chasama, Willoughby Sharpe Gallery, and Margaret Bodell Gallery — all in NYC, NY.  She had a major two-person show at the Vit Gallery in Seoul, S. Korea.
